SUPPORT LICENSING OF TOBACCO RETAILERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Members of the Tobacco-Free Communities Coalition are working in the cities throughout San Diego County to pass local laws requiring retailers to obtain an annual license to sell tobacco products.

The Coalition is recommending that all tobacco retailers be required to obain a annual license and that the following provisions be included in local licensing laws:

• A modest annual license fee which would be used exclusively to cover the cost of administering and enforcing the permit program
• Compliance with all state, local and national tobacco control laws as a condition of holding the license
• Inspection of all tobacco retailers each year or a representative sample of retailers
• A schedule of penalties that includes suspension and revocation of the license for violators who repeatedly sell tobacco to minors

Take Action!

• Submit an online Licensing Support Form letting your city council know that you support licensing tobacco retailers in your city.
