Protect Our Kids Now From Big Tobacco
Community members and public health advocates are working together in cities throughout San Diego County to require that retailers be licensed to sell tobacco.
Selling tobacco to kids has been illegal for more than 100 years, yet a 2004 study of over 800 San Diego County retailers conducted by the American Lung Association and the Tobacco-Free Communities Coalition found that over 33% broke the law.
Requiring a license to sell tobacco will hold store owners, not clerks, accountable for selling to a minor and impose meaningful penalties on retailers who repeatedly break the law, including suspension and revocation of the license.
Help stop the addiction now by sending the following message to your city council. This letter will be shared with your city council and our community partner working for tobacco retailer licensing in your city.
